My 6 years old son was hit by a jeepney. His leg was broken and a large area of skin was peeled off and he has needed skin grafts to heal the leg in addition to the broken bones.

The jeepney driver is refusing to pay for the hospital bills. The bills are now close to 100000 pesos and the hospital wont allow my son to leave the hospital.

I cannot afford to pay the hospital bills to get him out. I have read about the RA 9439.

What can I do to force the jeepney driver to pay so I can get my boy out of the hospital? Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

I'm so sorry to know about what happened to your son. I hope he recovers soon.

What you can do is to send a demand letter to the jeepney driver and give him, say 5 to 10 days, to reply to your demand letter. If he refuses to pay or ignores your letter, file a criminal complaint against the jeepney driver. However, the investigation to be conducted by the prosecutor may take a while, so you will be compelled to pay the hospital first and then collect the money from the jeepney driver.
