Ok so here goes...
My husband drives a motorbike. One afternoon, around 2:30, while driving, on his way home, a pedestrian suddenly crossed the street. He stopped immediately since he wasn't going too fast anyway, and did not hit the pedestrian but the pedestrian tripped on his front wheel and stumbled.
My husband, very soft-spoken and nice, asked him if he was OK and offered him a ride to work since the pedestrian wasn't so hurt. Upon arrival at the guy's office, he was confronted by the security guard and told him that he should pay for the guy's x-ray at least. My husband agreed. They went to a nearby police station and had a written agreement (in the police blotter) that my husband will pay for the guy's x-ray expenses.
The guy has medical insurance and Intellicare paid for his check-ups. Afterwards, the guy texted my husband and asked for 8,550 pesos for the check up etc. At first I thought it will not exceed 3,000 pesos and I was willing to just pay the guy even if it's not my husband's fault, but we honestly do not have 8,550 pesos.
I told my husband to ask for the official receipt, which the guy said he has. And I was planning to go to the police station to ask for a copy of the blotter where the agreement was written. I plan to have the receipt verified by Makati Med.
I would just like to know... Are we being scammed here? My husband and I are simple and good people and as much as I feel like we do not deserve this, we know we can't do anything if we really have to pay.
I guess I just wanna know if we're doing the right thing or if the guy is taking advantage of us.
Thanks in advance for the advise.
