My co worker borrowed money from me amounting to 40 thousand pesos. Since he was a trusted friend, i lent him the money in cash and without a promissory note. Now, he went on AWOL and refused to answer my calls. I went to his house still he refused to talk to me. His dad said that he would help settle the money. Now, theyre both hiding from me. They said i cant do anything because i dont have proof that he borrowed money from me. Is that true? What should i do? I really feel helpless. Id appreciate your response. Thank you.

try to gather whatever evidence you can, such as how you put up the money. perhaps you have bank records showing you withdrew it. witnesses who saw you give the money.

send a demand letter directing them to pay.

if they refuse, and if you live in the same municipality or city, then file a complaint in their bgy for collection. if not, then i recommend you file a small claims case in MTC where you live. rules are on sc.judiciary.gov.ph. no lawyers needed.

let's see how good they are at lying under oath face to face with a judge.
