CAN I ACCEPT VISITORS AS A TENANT?

Been renting this room with for 5 months and my landlord gets mad and wont let me accept visitors.. She keeps on insisting that I am a boarder not a tenant. But I guess, I am a tenant because we are not sharing anything.

TENANT vs BOARDER?

TENANT is the one who lives in a separate room or flat on payment of rent.

You are likely to be a tenant rather than a boarder/lodger, if you:

have exclusive access to your own room (no-one else uses your room and you can lock it)
do not get meals, linen, or cleaning as part of your agreement
have your own cooking facilities
do not have house rules enforced.

BOARDER--A boarder is one who lives along with you as a family members,having his meals,breakfast with you. What he pays includes the cost of boarding and only a symbolic amount of rent for sharing the premises with you.

so I guess I AM A TENANT? can my landlord control my life?

In a legal sense,tenants and boarders are similar.
Only that, a boarder has fewer rights than a tenant in terms of privacy.

Do you have a written agreement with your landlord?
Are you occupying for less than or more than a year?

A tenant or boarder can be evicted by the landlord by reasons of any violation of terms, non payment of rent, or illegal activities.
