I need some advice. I got into a road accident earlier. I sidewiped a motorcycle. The police impounded my vehicle. No case has been filed and the motorcycle driver has no plan of entering into a compromise.

has the police authority to impound my vehicle?
if yes, how long would my vehicle be impounded if no case is filed?
