Illegal Termination in the guise of redundancy?

Hi! Need your help on this.
My previous company had a reorganization and from 12 staff, we were told that it will now be reduced to 10. We submitted our resumes and after a few weeks, it was announced that only 5 will be retained and so there are 5 more openings which they are now advertising in jobstreet. When we asked why we cannot be in the "vacant positions", they told us because the job has changed (when we think the jobs did not because they are still the same) and are looking for more competent individuals. We are very surprised since we have been in the job for more than 5 years and have accomplished a lot already. Is this redundancy or illegal termination? What evidence do i need to have to justify my claim as illegal termination?
