I wanted to seek legal advice as to what path should i take. Here's my story:
I have a live in partner now (planning to get married this year or next year). My partner has a child before i met her. She and her ex partner were separated couple of months after the child was born ( meaning that the child has a birth certificate with the fathers last name) due to her knowing that there is another girl that is pregnant.
We met just when the baby was still a couple of months old. Basically, i became the father of the child. Before he went to school, my partner and i discussed, since i have a stable work, to be able to enroll the kid to my company's benefits, the kid should be under my name. So what we did was put in a late registration for NSO completely changing the name (first and last) of the child. Now, we have been living together for 10 years and i plan to talk to the kid who is now grade 6 regarding the truth about his father since it was his rights to know. There are no communication on his biological dad (since he entered his first day of school). I brought him when he was a 4 years old so the guy knows i have been taking care of him.
My question would be, how can i legally correct my mistakes? I know that it is wrong even if my intentions were good.
