Hello.

I wanted to seek legal advice as to what path should i take. Here's my story:

I have a live in partner now (planning to get married this year or next year). My partner has a child before i met her. She and her ex partner were separated couple of months after the child was born ( meaning that the child has a birth certificate with the fathers last name) due to her knowing that there is another girl that is pregnant.

We met just when the baby was still a couple of months old. Basically, i became the father of the child. Before he went to school, my partner and i discussed, since i have a stable work, to be able to enroll the kid to my company's benefits, the kid should be under my name. So what we did was put in a late registration for NSO completely changing the name (first and last) of the child. Now, we have been living together for 10 years and i plan to talk to the kid who is now grade 6 regarding the truth about his father since it was his rights to know. There are no communication on his biological dad (since he entered his first day of school). I brought him when he was a 4 years old so the guy knows i have been taking care of him.

My question would be, how can i legally correct my mistakes? I know that it is wrong even if my intentions were good.

adopt the child if you want him to be legally your child.

when you ask for a copy of the child's birth certificate, do they give the first or the second registered? if you wish to correct it, the remedy is indeed adoption by both you and the mother after you are married

Thank you for your response sir. The child is using my current last name (second registered) for 10 years now. Since kindergarten he carried my name. Was just afraid of the sanctions in case the family of the biological father went after it and use it as a "blackmail" to get some money from us.

If i get you correctly sir, after we get married legally adopt the child, if so, how can i adopt him if he was in my last name? where should be my first step after getting married?

Thanks sir, yes i really wanted it to be legal, just don't know which or rather what is the first step, since the child is carrying my name for 10 years now (illegally).
