Good day!

I would like to ask if it is possible to change the surname of my child carrying surname of his father who is not married to me. His father is no longer supporting since he was young.

I recently got married to a man who supported my child since young. We want to legally change my child's family name to ours. I believe there will be psychological effect to the child if he will be the only one with different surname among his siblings.

Is adoption applicable in this case? If Yes, how can we process it?

Please give me legal advice.

Thank You

Yes, adoption can be done. Since the child carries the surname of the father, he must give his written consent to the adoption. If this cannot be obtained, it must be shown that the father had abandoned the child (financially, physically and morally).
