I recently booked a van rental with a private carrier for the following day trip. They confirmed the booking which I also approved. Unfortunately, my companions had to cancel so I called the carrier 2 hours after the booking confirmation to cancel the trip. The van rental demanded for a 1000 peso cancellation fee which I had bargained to lower to 500 pesos. Are they allowed to collect cancellation fees even if no advisory prior to booking about it? They only informed me when I already had to cancel.
