I need advice.
What are the implications of accepting a new job offer, while on LOA with the present employer?
I have no plans of going back. I tried to resign the first time, however, they insisted on giving me an LOA instead.

Your previous company may terminate you. You should have at least submitted a resignation letter. You actually deceived your employer when they insisted to put you under an LOA (as you said).

You said 'they insisted'. Insistence is not tantamount to force. You were not even forced. Hence, you actually consented to the act. And since you accepted another job, you are considered in bad faith.
