good afternoon. my spouse and her siblings have a land title pawned to a person 6 yrs ago for 140,000. agreement documents created by a lawyer were signed. We were able to pay the interest (12%) for a few months but we later had difficulty in continuing due to business-related problems. After a year, the loan was reconstructed and it became, 240,000 (principal) due to the interest we failed to pay...we agreed. but still, we had difficulty paying the interest since the principal became higher..we could only give sometimes and very little only. As a result, our debt ballooned and it went up to a million pesos already as of Dec. 2012. It was only last jan. of 2013 that I was able to pay a big amount (280,000). Still, the amount was not even enough to pay the interest and the principal still stands at 240,000. Is there any advice that you can give me because it is very very difficult to pay even for the interest now. I am worried that the amount I paid would just go to nothing because after a few months, the debt will balloon again because of the unpaid interest. I was trying to persuade the person to deduct some amount I paid from the principal so it would be easier for me. After all, I have paid a big amount already if it will be summed up overall. But he refused. And still, the monthly interest is there. I don't know how we will be able to finish with this debt if the system is this way. Does the owner have the right to impose everything he wants because we have a documented agreement? please help me. Thank you.
