Hi po, i am a filipino living abroad. just want to ask what are the procedures in reverting back to my maiden name after divorce. kailangan din po bang mag file muna ng petition for recognition of foreign divorce or do i just need to submit my divorce decree to NSO? my foreign ex-husband was the one who initiated the divorce, if that makes any difference. salamat po.

it makes all the difference. if you had initiated the divorce, it would be invalid. you have to file a court petition for recognition of foreign judgment. your first step is to retain a lawyer

Hi po.
Same problem din po kami ni Ms. Khitty. And gaya po nya annulled na po ako sa asawa ko sa pinas. At ang problema ko po eh nasa ibang bansa po ako sa Kuwait. At ang dati ko pong asawa eh pinipilit na nya akong huwag ng gamitin ang surname nya since annulled na daw po kami. Eh ang kaso po pag nagpalit po ako ng surname ko po dito sa Kuwait magiging double identity na poako sabi ng amo ko. mhihirapan na daw po akng makabalik since ang nasa visa ko eh ang pangalan ng asawa ko.
Meron pa bo bang paraan para dito. Please help po.Thank you.

then process your visa so that the name is changed. you have a valid reason because you are no longer allowed to use his surname.
