It depends on the type of insurance that person is enrolled in, and it also depends on the terms and conditions set forth in the insurance contract. Please check the contents of the contract first to see if any terms were violated due to the insured's ailment.

Let's say that the insurance policy states that it doesn't cover any hiv/aids related deaths. What happens to the insurers monthly premium payments?

Again, it depends on the insurance policy terms and conditions of the insured.

If it has a clause stating there the effect when the insured dies due to a health condition that is not covered in the insurance policy, then it is assumed that said clause is valid since there is a presumption that the insured is aware of the terms and conditions of the policy he is under.

For further queries on the insurance policy, you should contact the insurance company to clarify your concerns. Alternatively, you may try contacting the insurance commission for clarifications, as well.

Good luck.
