Guys, there's been an ongoing confusion on how the Supreme Court will officially compute the scores of the examinees, particularly the MCQ aspect in the 2011 Bar Exams which comprises 60% out of the total grade of each examinee.

Is there anyone here who can provide us the official formula or procedure that can at least shed light on this matter based on any credible source from the Supreme Court?

For example, if an examinee gets a raw score of 60 out of 100 items in Poli last Sunday, how will its actual value/percentage be determined vis-a-vis its 15% weight and in relation to the total 60% composition of all MCQ subjects.

Hoping for a quick reply on this post from any one who has more or less personal knowledge over the matter.

Thanks, God bless!

With the 60/40 distribution the actual percentage of 8 subjects and essay will be:

POLITICAL LAW 9% (15 X 60%)
LABOR LAW 6% (10 X 60%)
TAXATION 6% (10 X 60%)
CIVIL LAW 9% (15 X 60%)
MERCANTILE LAW 9% (15 X 60%)
REMEDIAL LAW 12% (20 X 60%)
LEGAL ETHICS 3% (5 X 60%)
CRIMINAL LAW 6% (10 X 60%)
TRIAL MEMO 24% (60 X 40%)
LEGAL OPINION 16% (40 X 40%)
TOTAL==========100%

So if a Bar Examinee got a raw score of 60 out of 100 items in Political Law, he's grade will be 5.4%.

Here's the formula: 60 x 9% = 5.4%.

Try to assume grades for each subject and compute it.

Hope this will help. Thanks.

Thanks a lot for the info.

Do you also happen to know if there will be a different corresponding value/percentage/weight for every correct answer that the examinee may get each subject?

For instance, if an examinee gets a raw score of 70 out of 75 items in Crim/Tax/Labor (in these subjects, a total of only 75 items, not 100 items, are being given by the SC in this year's exam) will the examinee still receive the same grade of 70 (which will be directly multiplied to the 6% weight of the subject), even though he/she incurred only 5 mistakes out of the total of 75 items?

Thanks again.

Since not all subjects have uniform number of items which is 100, you may use a multiplier of 100 (constant) to have a uniform formula in the subjects you want to compute, for example:

POLITICAL LAW RAW SCORE 75/100

75/100 X 100 X 9% = 6.75 (out of 9%)

LABOR LAW RAW SCORE 65/75

65/75 x 100 X 6% = 5.20 (out of 6%)

TAXATION RAW SCORE 60/75

60/75 x 100 x 6% = 4.80 (out of 6%)

CIVIL LAW RAW SCORE 80/100

80/100 X 100 X 9% = 7.20% (out of 9%)

MERCANTILE LAW RAW SCORE 85/100

85/100 X 100 X 9% = 7.65 (out of 9%)

REMEDIAL LAW RAW SCORE 90/100

90/100 X 100 X 12% = 10.80 (out of 12%)

LEGAL ETHICS RAW SCORE 40/50

40/50 X 100 X 3% = 2.4 (out of 3%)

CRIMINAL LAW RAW SCORE 70/75

70/75 X 100 X 6% = 5.60 (out of 6%)

Therefore, from the 8 subject the rating will be 50.40 (out of 60% allotted for MCQ TYPE. Lets further assume ratings for the Essay Type:

TRIAL MEMO: Average grade of 85% (from the 4 examiners)

85/100 X 100 X 24% = 20.40% (out of 24%)

LEGAL OPINION: Average grade of 82% (from the 4 examiners)

82/100 x 100 x 16% = 13.12% (out of 16)

From the Essay, the rating will be 33.52 (out of 40%)

Summing it up: 50.40+33.52 = 83.92 (pwede nang pumasok yan sa TOP 1O)

At any rate, all of the above were mere assumptions. I am glad to share
my little knowledge in mathematics. Again, thank you.
