What if someone is involved in a chat program and someone who you are chatting with has access to searching personal information, then reveals it to people in the chat who you are, where you live, home address, bank mortgages etc. What can be done and how do I go about securing my real life and stopping this?

YOu can file a civil case for damages.

Under the civil Code, PROTECTION OF HUMAN DIGNITY (Art. 26)
Every person shall respect the dignity, personality,privacy and peace of mind of his neighbors and other persons.

Acts which, though not criminal, produce cause of action for damages, prevention, and other relief:
1. Prying into the privacy of another’s residence;
2. Meddling with or disturbing the private life or family relations of another;
3. Intriguing to cause another to be alienated from friends;

While I agree that you can go to court if your personal information is used illegally, there are some jurisdictional issues that you need to contend with as the act (or crime, if you may) happened in virtual community.

The best way to secure your personal life on the net is, of course, not to reveal any personal information unless security measures in place. If this is not enough, my advice is for you to seek assistance from law enforcement agencies in your world area.
