i have been going out for almost a year now with a Muslim revert. he had a church wedding when he was still a catholic because his gf got pregnant. they have been on and off in the marriage and are now "separated" for 2 years or so. separated as in not living together but not like legally separated or annulled. the girl doesn't want him to live with her and their daughter but she constantly nags at him when she finds out that he is in a relationship. now the girl found out about us and she's threatening to ruin me at work, even attack me. the guy already wants to file for separation but we don't know where to start. he's unemployed so he doesn't really have any funds to work on the separation.
i know i may look like the villain here but really everyone has a story to tell. i care a lot for him and i'm not going to leave him to deal with this problem alone. can PAO possibly help him file the separation? is there anything in the Muslim law that can help us? what can we do??
please please help.

may i first recommend that you confirm that he is indeed a muslim? I am not knowledgeable in sharia law, but I believe that divorce is allowed.

The PAO very rarely assists in annulment of marriage.

yes he is a revert from catholicism to Islam. he has been Muslim for four years now.

can divorce still be applicable if his marriage was in a Christian church and he was still a catholic when he got married?

is our relationship "against the law" given that we got to know each other when he's already a muslim (who can have 4 wives if he can afford) and we're not even living together. we're just dating.

can PAO help with legal separation at least?
what could be your suggestion?

thank you so much.

@barbie thanks for letting me know i'm not alone.

There is divorce in islam, but I am not sure how it applies to Muslim converts.

By the way, do not say that a Muslim can have up to four wives IF he can afford it, because there's no criteria or standard to measure it. In Islam, that decision is personal. Shariah will never step in and say to the man he cannot have a second wife because it is beyond his means. This is a misconception. The truth is a Muslim man can remarry up to 4 times whether or not he can afford it. And he can take a bride as young as 9 years old. Maybe he will not, but perhaps later he may be attracted to a 15-16 years old. You maybe replaced by a younger second or third wife when you are already 40. careful.
