Need advice on this. I resigned from my work recently and on my last day, they demanded that they access, copy all mails in my personal email, sift through it and then retrieve emails that were business related. The said personal email was used due to some issues with the client wherein they would not receive mails coming from my company email. This email was created prior to my joining the company. I declined as I felt I was being coerced in doing it. My question is can they file ANY case since they are saying that the email account is company property. Thanks.

The company dont have any valid cause of action to institute a civil or a criminal case, your email account is your personal property and not a property of the company that to be surrendered upon your resignation. To compel you to do so will tantamount to unjust vexation or other form of coercion. It is you that have a valid cause of action against them and not the other way around.

blessed, so your personal mail was indeed used for business purposes? obviously you can refuse to give them free access, but maybe you can negotiate a process where the business emails are identified and deleted.
