Hi, i have unpaid credit card with bpi 7 yrs ago, i am now a pensioner and i open a svings acct for my pension with bpi. Can the bank take my pension as payment for my unpaid credit card? Pls advise Can anybody enlighten me on this matter? I'm waiting for a reply

How much was the unpaid account? Did BPI contact you regarding that unpaid debt you had with them?

They cannot automatically deduct your savings account since they have to notify you of your outstanding debt. I would assume that your debt with BPI will include penalties and interest, as necessary.

Thanks, They have not not contacted for so long. Is there a possibility that my pension be taken away? My credit limit was 25 k. I have no idea on the amount as of present.

It depends if they will be able to double check your account with them for any liabilities you had with them in the past. I am not sure on how their policies work or if they usually do a standard check on their new account holders for any previous affiliations on any possible debts.

Just don't be surprised if you will receive a call from them, informing you of the matter of your previous debt, since it is well-within their right to collect such amount from you.

Whwn i opened the acct, i brought a leeter of introduction (LOI) from SSS , the initial deposit was only 100 because the bank is enrolled with the sss pension program. The sss will deposit my bebefit through this bank. .

While said section may protect your SSS pension from legal processes from it being deducted, the bank may choose to use other methods to make you liable for any outstanding debt you may have from them.

Again, the bank must first act on their monetary claim against you and it cannot wholly automatically deduct the amount from your pension. Other means may be used, and if it comes to that point, you may need to consult a lawyer as to what your options are, or just settle the debt with them since you have admitted to its existence anyway.
