Hi,

due to inheritance laws back in my home country, my wife would be unable to
collect anything should something happen to me.

A way around this would be to adopt the children she has from previous relationship.
According to my countries law, for inheritance purpose adopted or natural children are treated
in the same way.

Could anyone direct me to some website with procedures to follow ?

ps. In case you wonder, the kids are teenagers already, we have been married for quite a while already,
we discussed the issue and the kids agree to it.

Did a search on google, and contacted a random law firm. They quoted 300k for the procedure (150k per kid). Is this about right or excessive ? I have no idea about the fees for this.

Maybe FYI, this topic is still ongoing for me.
There were new inheritance rules under consideration in my country,
and there was a consensus on governmental level, which needs to be
voted into law by parliament and gazetted after which the new law takes
effect.
There was a proposal tabled granting stepchildren the same rights as
natural children, but it remains to be seen if that will be part of the
gazetted law.
So I will have to wait a few months until publication.
Meanwhile thank you for still paying attention to my posting.

hello again, did you already retain your own counsel? I would say adoption is still the best option, but there may be other options such as structured donations but that would mostly apply to properties located here in the philippines.

I haven't yet. As stated, waiting published updated inheritance law in my country.
Yes, adoption will be the way to go, cause also the kids want it.

ps. i understand this thread gathers a bit more attention because of potential business, but i have 2 outstanding questions in the "OTHER" thread, one about zoning laws in Philippines (dog hotel started as one neighbor, car shop started as another neighbor) in a residential area (Afpovai), and the second question was about EO 26, smoking on the streets of BGC. Would appreciate some input on those also, if and when someone has time and mood. Thanks !
