I got pregnant at the age of 18 (year 2001). I didn't marry the father of my daughter who eventually stopped seeing us when my child was only 2 years old.

I'm happily married now for about a year, my child uses my surname who is now 9 years old (without middle initial) in school. I want to know on how am I able to go through changing it to my husband's surname?

Please enlighten me on below:
A. Is this what you call adoption?
B. Will I require anything from my child's biological father?
C. What papers/documents are needed to be prepared?
D. And can you please give us an approx costs of this?

Many thanks & I shall await for response.

The biological father's name is the one enlisted on my child's birth certificate.

Adoption by both of you is required to raise the child to be your legitimate child both.

you should consult a lawyer how to file your petition in court.

it is better if you are able to get the father's consent. if not, allege abandonment.

cost depends on the lawyer you retain.
