Scenario: My father has credit card debt, any some other forms of debt. I've never came to contact with this person for 20 years now (I'm 26). He walked out on his family (Wife and Son) and now lives with another family ( living with a partner and has kids with his partner).

Question: I am expecting any inheritance or any form of compensation from my father. Will I inherit if ever he has debt?

Just wondering if you've encountered any case like this and what was the result?

if he has debts, all his assets will be liquidated to pay those obligations upon his death. if there is remaining assets after the debts has been paid, then this will be distributed to the heirs.
