Question about Church Annulment

I just recently learned that Church Annulment process is now made simpler and much faster then the previous process. I spoke with one Priest about this and he said that I should get a Civil Annulment first before I can get a Church Annulment..

That did not make any sense to me and he did not properly explain as well WHY. I know there is a separation of Church and State, so why do I have to take up a Civil Annulment first?

Do I really have to take on Civil Annulment first before I can get a Church Annulment?

The law and the government have nothing to do with the rules of any church regarding the rules said church has for its members, unless of course those rules contravene the laws of the Philippines.

If that is the requirement of your church before you could be granted a church annulment then you had better comply. You cannot force the church to give you an annulment because the church has its own rules.

adding to Atty Jadis' comment, magkaiba po kasi ang annulment ng church at civil. kailangan ma-annul ka muna sa civil bago ka magpakasal ulit. kung kasal ka sa simbahan at balak mo magpakasal ulit sa simbahan once magrant ang annulment mo sa civil, kailangan mo naman iprocess ang annulment sa church para payagan ka nila makasal muli sa simbahan.

to simplify
civil wedding kailangan ng civil annulment.
church wedding kailangan ng civil annulment then church annulment.

kung wala ka naman balak magpakasal ulit sa simbahan, pwede na di ka na mag church annulment.
