Does an SPA have to have an expiration date for it to be valid? If it doesn't have an exp date, what is the default expiration? For example, a wife has a notarized SPA that authorizes her to mortgage a conjugal property. Since the SPA does not have an expiration date indicated, can she mortgage the property multiple times any time - let's say 3x within 2 years?

Generally, an SPA does not have an expiry date. The exceptions would be during the lifetime of the principal or when the purpose for which the SPA was executed has been fulfilled. The principal can also issue a new SPA revoking the authority given to his attorney in fact.

If a particular date or undertaking or condition is specified in the body of the SPA itself stating the condition of its validity, then that date or undertaking or condition is the factor that would govern the validity of the SPA.
