Arresto Menor

My girlfriend is 5 months pregnant and works as a preschool teacher. Lately she has been experiencing contraction and her OB advised her "bed rest for 2-3days". She told her boss about it and her boss advised her to switch to part time if my gf would continue with her absences due to her pregnancy. Is it legal for her boss to switch her from a regular to a part time employee? Are there any laws or policies relating to this? Thank you guys.
