Here it goes...
I just resigned from my post as a copy editor in a publishing company here in Cebu. It's an American company that set up an office here in the Philippines. Every month, we're assigned to edit three hundred thousand words of manuscripts regardless if we've finish the previous workload or not. (The number of manuscripts/books we edit there varies, depending on the total number of words.) Thus, we're in a vicious cycle of the inability to get the work done on time because they throw another batch on us once another month starts.
My termination date was last May 14. As you would've expect, I was unable to finish my April workload. This morning, my supervisor told me the HR would not process my exit clearance unless those manuscripts are edited are submitted. So my last pay will most likely be compromised.
Is that all right? Am I still liable to them even if I'm no longer working there? I read our code of conduct thoroughly but didn't see anything pertaining to this.
Your advice is highly appreciated. Thank you very much!
Blessings,
Joey D.
P.S.
Sorry that was really long. I thought I should give a little background before proceeding to ask what should be done. By the way, if it's all right, I hope you'd reply to me in layman's term. Thank you again. God bless!
