Hello everyone.

I am a staff nurse at a tertiary hospital. Recently, one department's headnurse resigned. The Chief nurse decided to have a meeting with all the headnurses and ask to give 3 candidates to be OIC for a month and they will choose the new headnurse through evaluation. I was nominated but i am not interested at the position.

Is it safe for me to decline the OIC position? I am not interested. Im a little bothered. Will it be grounds for insubordination if i refuse?

The chief nurse and hr hasn't talked to me regarding the position if i want it. And i heard from a colleague that the hr will be releasing the memo. Is it still okay to decline the position?
Thank you in advance

Being OIC for a month is not a promotion, IMO. But you might not be able to refuse that since it is part of the work and evaluation.

But you may mention to the chief nurse (preferably before the start of the OIC "training") that even if you are chosen, you are not inclined to accept it. So they might want to exclude you from the candidates' list as early as now.
