Hello Atty. I just want to ask about my divorce which I filed in Canada. Im planning to remarry but then the're requiring me an evidence on which my divorce will be officially registered and validate in the Philippines. I understand that Divorce is not yet accepted in the Phils. What will I do in order I can pursue my plan. Looking forward for your reply. Thank you.

Hi Locelyn,

May I ask if you are a Canadian citizen? If you are, then no problem, you can have it recognised here in the Philippines by filing a petition in court for the recognition of the divorce decree. This will be used to update your records here in the Philippines.

However, if you are a Filipino, that divorce decree cannot be recognised here in the Philippines.

If you need legal assistance, please send me a PM or a direct email to km@kgmlegal.ph

Best regards,
Atty. Katrina
