I have been working in an academic institution for 20 years. Just recently the admin passed a memo requiring all instructors to work 40 hours per week. 8:00-5:00, Monday to Friday.
This is my problem, in universities like the school where I work, instructors are paid by the hourly rate based on their academic load. If I have a basic load of 24 hours and an overload of 6 hours, that would be equal to 30 hours. aside from that, I also have schedules after 5 PM.
Is the school's policy legal and realistic? What shall we do?
