Hi,
I am an American citizen. My illegitimate son was born after I left the Philippines. The mother registered him as an illegitimate child and gave him her surname.

1. Is there a way to acknowledge my son without having to be physically present in the Philippines?
2. Can I be listed as the father on his birth certificate?
3. Can I give him my last name?
If yes how should I go about doing this and where should I start?

Of course you can give your surname but I'm afraid you have to go to Philippines and physically claim your child and go through the process of affidavit of ackowledgement.

not necessarily physically present but a simple written statement acknowledging the child is enough. of course you have to provide support doc to properly identify you. Very Happy
