Anyways… my brother, who’s turning 13 this year, ‘caused’ an accident yesterday. He was playing with his playmates when the metal-thingy they were playing with slipped from his hands and landed on a car’s windshield nearby which caused it to crack. Being children as they were, they ran and hide. The owner of the car said that they will file a police blotter claiming that the 'accident' was intentional based on their action(but a witness claimed it wasn't). They also demanded for a replacement for the damaged windshield (which is practical and understandable). My brother accepted all the responsibility of paying for the replacement since he was the one who had the slip, and my parents promised the owner of the car that they will replace it by all means as soon as possible. This morning, the owner had a talk with my parents and told them that they will just tell us how much a brand new windshield costs after asking a certain store. The problem is, this certain store is known to be the most expensive in town.
My question(s):
Can we buy the new windshield in other stores where it’s less expensive, maybe in the city, as long as it is of the same quality (brand, size, color, thickness, etc.) as the broken one?
Is it right for the owner to demand for a higher quality windshield than the broken one? does it have to be brand new or can we provide them with secondhand as long as it is still good (if we ever find one)?
Can we ask for financial help from the playmates’ parents?
Thank you so much :]
