One of my nieces have wrong spelling of her first name on birth cerrtificate. It says Diodelyn but her name has always been Judelyn. It was the birth aid who took it up on herself to change the name of the girl when she was in office now 18 years ago so the woman are dead of natural old age now.

So i wanna help my niece to change it to correct so she can know all papers are as intended for future purposes. Can something be done and what?

RA 9038 authorizes the civil registrar to correct a clerical error in the first name without need of having to go to court.

Hence, all you need to do to correct your niece's first name is to go to the civil registrar where her birth certificate is recorded. You need to submit the following documents:

1. copy of the birth record containing the error
2. two public or private documents showing the correct spelling of the name (examples: baptismal certificate, school records, medical record, insurance policy, passbook, birth certificate of mother or father, etc)
3. notice/certificate of posting (ask the civil registrar about this)
4. other documents required by your local civil registrar

It is best if you pay your Local Civil Registrar a visit to know the cost. Based on my very rough estimate, it may cost you around 800-3000; way cheaper than having to go to court.

That can be done by summary correction in the Local Civil Registrar. Refer to my previous reply.
