Arresto Menor

The case was against my parents when they did not fulfill their duties to pay for the loan of our car. A lawyer told us that the bank will have to claim some of my parents property if the unit/vehicle was not found (it was carnapped, but we could not claim from the insurance because of some 'complications'). My father has died, and did not have any property iunder his name. My mother still lives but do not have properties of her own, too. But a friend of ours told us that the bank may claim properties from us offsprings if they want to. Is that really possible? Legal? If it is indeed possible, could we do something to prevent it from happening?

Please, give us enlightenment.
