Hi. I booked a party planner last Feb and settled their required 60% DP to enable her to deliver her initial commitments - reserve venue, book hosts and performers etc. However for the past 2-3 weeks she has not taken calls, does not reply to SMS, unreachable on her landline (7yo daughter said her parents were not at home and she doesnt know where they went and when they plan to return), does not reply to mail messages (except 1 time when she said I will hear from her the next day but never really called). Recently I saw other complaints in blogs and chatrooms and threads for the same party planner. Now I don't know what to do. For lack of trust and communication, I want to cancel contract and get full DP (unless she can present ORs/booking contracts for venue, host etc ASAP - then I will just cancel and not demand return of DP) but because she cannot be reached I do not know what step to take to protect myself. With contract still in place, that's still binding to both of us. (note: contract hasn't been notatized) Party is in June. But apparently planner is notorious for changing contract specs at the last minute 'unintentionally' (ie host cannot make it, venue all of a sudden unavailable, etc.) and client ends up compromised. Contacted host directly and no confirmation of planner booking him for event.
