Car Accident: I hit a kid and he sustained a fractured femur

I need advice. I hit a 9 year old kid and he sustained a fractured femur in his left leg. When the accident happened, his parents were at work and no one was supervising him when he ran across the road and I hit him. When it happened, I rushed him to the ER for immediate care and confined him to the charity of Philippine Orthopedic. I paid for all the bills and arranged with the parents that I will pay the hospitalization of the kid.

I have been in contact with the mom as she was the parent who is attending to her kid in the hospital.

Just yesterday, the father along with 2 policemen visited me at home and made me sign a letter of complaint filed against me by the father and informing me to attend to the investigation which will take place in 3 days from now.

This is all new to me. I don't know what to expect and what to do and what are my rights in this. Please advise me of what usually takes place on this investigation and what to do and not to do.

you will be asked your version of events. you should prepare yourself now that you may be charged with reckless imprudence resulting to serious physical injuries in relation to RA 7610.

my guess is that the family is looking for a monetary settlement. it's a good thing the child was brought to the orthopedic so the medical expenses should not have been too much.

prepare what you believe is a reasonable amount. drag it out until they realize that is all they are going to get.

fast forward. no jail because even if you were convicted, you can apply for probation. the worst possible consequence is an nbi record. monetary damages are awarded only if there are assets in your name.

Can I ask a format of the quitclaim and other documents that I need to make them sign when I give them the money? Will this document hold water and will protect me from further harassment?
