just a warning, the employer can file a case to recover their funds immediately.  kahit na nagkamali sila na ilagay sa payroll account mo its still their money.
that being said yes you have the right to ask them na isulat sa authorization letter yung reason for the deduction and yes they should provide you with a detailed computation on how the figure was arrived at including the dates and amounts na the overpayment was supposedly given.

yes they have that right although they will have to go to court to enforce it. i think that is what they are trying to avoid kasi maliit lang yung amount. kung tutuusin pwede sila magdemand na isauli mo yung whole amount immediately pero syempre if they bring this to court they will have expenses din.
just a piece of advice though, you should be aware what your salary is and should pay attention if mas malaki or mas maliit ang sinahod mo para lang next time if mapansin mo na sobra isauli mo na kagad para walang problema.

whether or not you need the money for your kids or not is not really relevant in the eyes of the law.  if you dont mind me asking what did you spend the extra money on? hindi na ba pwede isauli?

so for me try to negotiate a win win solution.
