Hello,

I am using a family name, let's say X until I graduated in college. I was asked to submit my nso however my family name is, let's just say Y. But Y is a very funny family name, but it's my correct family name, which is the family name of my father. So I want to use X again.

I search on the internet that it's possible on other country. Is it possible with the Philippine Law.

Hoping for some advice.

Thank you.

Thank you for your reply. I just want to ask how many percent is the possibility that the petition would be granted? Thanks.

well, having a ridiculous sounding last name is one of the grounds for changing name so it's highly probable.

Ok, I also want to ask the estimated amount that I'll have to pay for the petition. Thanks.

Hi there, I forgot to ask this before. I have searched on the internet and got into a forum and it said one can just secure an affidavit to change family name, which cost much less than changing the actual info on the Birth Certificate. Well that was true on a certain country, I can't remember the name of that country. Is that possible in the Philippines.

Hoping for some response. Thank you.

sometimes a gov't office such as the dfa will accept an affidavit that you are the same person when there are discrepancies in your birth certificate. but definitely an affidavit alone will not be enough to change the entry on your birth certificate.

What i'm thinking is use the family name(the one w/c does not sounds funny) in my legal transactions like bank accounts or at work. And in case they'll ask for my Birth Certificate, I'll just present the affidavit together with my current Birth Certificate. Is that possible and valid?

Also, those actresses/actors that changed their names, did they do the same court petition?

Thank you so much.

legally, you are only supposed to use the name in your birth certificate. it will be up to the persons reviewing your docs whether they will accept your affidavit, but note that is a stop gap solution.

actors are allowed to use screen names by law.
