Hi
Would like to ask if just because the sales person decided to increase his sales quota it would automatically mean it is a promotion.
-we have different levels of quota in our company
500k - junior sales executive
700k - sales executive
900k - senior sales executive
-the jr sales executive has a quota of 500k and if he feels he is ready for a higher quota, he will express his intent to the management to increase his sales quota either to 700k or to 900k, it all depends on the junior sales executive
-if the jr sales exec decides to jump to the 900k he will be a senior sales exec..
-the title is tied to the quota

questions:
1. if this happens, is this considered a promotion even if the employee is the one who decided to become a senior sales executive?
2.  is it true that once you change the title, such as this, it is already a promotion?
3.  what is the best term for this type of "moving up"

even if he request for more responsibility, it does not automatically mean that he is promoted. Promotion has to come from the management. However, he can use this (his performance) to request for a promotion but, it will still be up to the company if he will get promoted or not.

1. No. Promotion is management prerogative not the employee.
2. If the title is connected to corresponding levels, such as this, yes. again, management prerogative. the employee might want to hit that sales amount but he is not automatically be entitled to that position, unless your policy state otherwise.

BTW, pahabol lang:

I explained this "system" of our with our HR person and that time she just said okay. She advised that we should use our internal form to document the increase in quota which is what we did. Then after this she announced it to the staff and posted it as a promotion. Can we still take back the announcement and explain to the person involved that it was not a promotion? Apparently, our HR person didn't understand and insists that it is a promotion. Our VP also advised that it was not a promotion. But she announced it already
