Hi everyone,

I just want to ask if an Australian company can file a lawsuit to a freelancer here in the Philippines.

I'm a freelance programmer but I had this client that don't want to settle the August invoice that I sent to him as their server is down due to cyber hack.

Now the client want me to be held accountable for that problem and he will not pay me until the server is fixed. But on my side, I don't want to commit any hours of work to him as he's still not paying the August invoice. My condition to him is to settle the invoice and I will resume my programming support and fix the server. When I said that, he gets frustrated and threaten me to take legal action for the company loss that caused while the server is down.

I just want to confirm if there's really a way that my client can file a lawsuit all the way from Australia that might cause me trouble.

P.S. There's no contract, but we have emails and hours log as we're using some online project management software.

Thank you for your help!
