tama ba na bigyan ka agad ng AWOL letter for
a 1 day absent, if hindi ka nakapag advise makapasok??

What does the AWOL letter say?
What does the company policy say?

Technically AWOL is absent without (official) leave.

So yes, kung hindi ka nakapag-advise na mag-a-absent ka, therefore it is without leave (walang paalam), and tama lang na bigyan ka ng memo.
