Bar exam results out Wednesday—SC spokesman
By Tetch Torres

12:20 pm | Monday, February 27th, 2012

MANILA, Philippines — The result of the 2011 Bar exam will be released on Wednesday, Supreme Court Spokesman Jose Midas Marquez said.
In a text message, Marquez said the results, to be released 2 p.m. on Wednesday, would be the earliest since the Bar changed its exam format from essay type to multiple choice. It is usually released in March or before the high court starts its summer session in Baguio.
Considered as the most difficult licensure exam, a total of 6,200 took the 2011 Bar exam held for the first time at the University of Santo Tomas for four Sundays in November.
INQUIRER.net will be posting the complete list of successful Bar examinees.

LATEST UPDATE THIS AFTERNOON:::::1,913 pass 2011 bar exams
28-Feb-12, 2:36 PM | Lorenz Niel Santos, InterAksyon.com

MANILA, Philippines — (UPDATE, 3:21 p.m.) A total of 1,913 out of 5,900 passed the bar exams, the Supreme Court announced on Tuesday.

This makes for a passing rate of 31.93 percent.

But SC spokesman Midas Marquez said the list of those who passed the bar will be released on Wednesday at 2 p.m. as scheduled.

This will be the earliest release of the results of the bar tests after the format of the examinations was changed from essay type to multiple choice.

Marquez said that the results of the bar exams are usually released every month of March or before the summer session of the SC magistrates is conducted in Baguio City.

The 2011 bar exam was held for the first time in the University of Sto. Tomas.

At a press conference said this batch of bar examinees scored the second highest rate in the history of bar examination. The highest was in 2001 with 32.89 percent.

The SC also announced the 2011 examiners. They are Court of Appeals Associate Justice Amy Lazaro Javier (Political Law); author and professor lawyer Cesario Alvero Azucena Jr. (Labor Law); author and former Justice Undersecretary Dean Ernesto Pineda (Civil Law); author and professor Abelardo Domondon (Taxation); Court of Appeals Associate Justice Ramon Paul Hernando (Mercantile Law); Sandiganbayan Associate Justice Maria Cristina Cornejo (Criminal Law); former professor and practitioner Virgilio Manguera (Remedial law), and MCLE lecturer Edwin Carillo (Legal Ethics).

Marquez said the complete list will be released on Wednesday at 2 p.m.

1,913 pass 2011 Bar exams
| More | Tuesday, February 28, 2012

MANILA (Updated 3:16 p.m.) — A Supreme Court official announced on Tuesday that 1,913 out of 5,990 law graduates hurdled the Bar examinations held last November.

However, SC spokesperson Midas Marquez said the roll of successful examinees will still be released on Wednesday.

The exam’s national passing percentage of 31.94 percent is the highest in a decade, which is just a point shy of the 2001 average of 32.89 percent.

Marquez also said the Court did not lower the passing percentage from the mandated 75 percent.

The Rules of Court provide that a “candidate may be deemed to have passed his examination successfully if he has obtained a general average of 75 percent in all subjects without failing below 50 percent in any subject.”

For the first time, the exam featured multiple-choice questions that were constructed as to specifically measure the candidate’s knowledge of and ability to recall the laws, doctrines, and principles that every new lawyer needs in his practice, among others.

Scores in the multiple-choice questions will carry a weight of 60 percent, while those of the essay-type examinations will be given a weight of 40 percent in computing a candidate’s final grade.

The subjects and their corresponding weights are as follows: Remedial Law, 20 percent; Political and International Law, 15 percent; Mercantile Law, 15 percent; Civil Law, 15 percent; Labor and Social Legislation, 10 percent; Taxation, 10 percent; Criminal Law, 10 percent; and Legal Ethics and Practical Exercises, 5 percent.

At least 6,200 law graduates were admitted to the exams but only 5,990 examinees showed up to take the Bar — arguably one of the toughest licensure exams in the Philippines — at the University of Santo Tomas in Manila on four Sundays of November. (Virgil Lopez/Sunnex)
