I sold my car several years ago. However, the buyer of my car has not transferred the vehicle to his name. Now I lost my copy of the notarized deed of sale. My question is, if the car gets involved in a crime, will I get implicated? What should I do to protect myself?

yes, because you are still the registered owner. even if you had the deed of sale, you would still be liable.

What steps can we do if that is the case that we lost the Deed of Sale?
