Car accident am I obliged to pay?

recently i made car accident, the case is this i have an expired registration and so my license. i only drive for the reason to bring and get my mother from her dialysis schedule. On the accident it was on intersection route which i drove in a normal speed, i dont realize if the other guy was driving fast or not but accidents happen, for me i dont have a fault becuase i was running on normal course and was slow on the intersection route which we made the accident. after the accident his car was almost 500 yards away from my car and you tell that he runs fast. now he is claiming that i'm in the wrong side and cause the accident i didn't argue with him cause for me i carried expire reg. and lic. i was suppose to settle damages but i was shock that they cost me about 65thousand for the repair. and i found out according to the traffic investigator i have the right of way in short i have no fault on the accident. according to the other guy his insurance will not handle the damage since my reg. and lic. is expired. For info. the other guy was a lawyer which i know i have such big trouble if not settled because he told me to file a case against me if not paying for the damages.

Can someone advice if i could do somewhat or something to minimize my obligation? my only mistake is that i drive with expired reg. and lic. but not for bumping his car is not my fault. please any advices. thank you very much

he will file a case of reckless imprudence resulting in damage to property. you can jump the gun by filing against him.

unfortunately, with an expired license, it will be presumed that you are the one responsible. your remedy will be to show through the police report, the nature of the damage, etc, to overthrow the presumption.

if he's an office lawyer, it may not be worth his time, but if it's a trial lawyer, he'll see it through.

thanks atty., I know i have something to settle for the damage because i was carrying expired reg. at lic. but my concern now is that he show me an estimated damages rising to 65 thousand, and for sure i cannot pay that money. i dont if he can claim for the insurance if he has an OD. he wants me to pay at least an instant 10 thousand in order to begin for the repair and should be paying him 6 thousand a month or for 9 months and i said i could not pay 6 thousand a month i ask if to extend it and he says at least for one year. fine. but what if i could not settle then for one year because as of now i'm totally broke and my mother still undergoing dialysis. he will be making some contract to the agreement. just incase if i cannot comply it. what should happen to me? thanks a lot atty.

i do not agree that his insurance company can refuse to honor the policy because your license has no bearing.

what is the legal grounds for hitting a motor whose driver has no license. are they ground to make demands in our party?
