Hi
My fiance is a filipina and has been living in Ireland for 12 years. She got married to a filipino man 15 years ago in Philippines but the marriage ended soon after because he was seeing other women.
Her ex husband is now living in Ireland as well with his partner.
My fiance and her ex husband have Irish citizenship and my fiance is in the process of applying for dual citizenship in Ireland and Philippines.
About 2 years ago she obtained an Irish divorce from her ex husband.
My question is will this divorce be recognized in Philippines?
I was born in Ireland and want to marry my fiance and eventually move to Philippines to start a business.
Or can anyone please tell me how we can proceed to have our marriage recognized in Philippines?
If anyone could give me information it would be much appreciated.
Many thanks
Niall

Hi.
She got the divorce first and a few months later she became an Irish Citizen.

The divorce will not be recognized in the Philippines.

Filipinos are not allowed to divorce. It is only when the foreigner spouse obtains a divorce allowing that foreigner spouse to remarry that the Filipino spouse will be allowed to remarry after having the divorce decree recognized in a Philippine court.

I was wondering if this might help. When my Fiance got her Irish divorce from her ex husband he was already an Irish Citizen but she was still a Philippines Citizen.
I read on another website that if a philippines might recognize a divorce between a Philippines citizen and a foreigner. Would her ex husband be classed as a foreigner because at time of divorce he was an Irish Citizen???
Thanks again for all your help.

I DON'T KNOW IF I WAS NOT BEING CLEAR.

The bottomline is, it should be the foreigner spouse who obtains the divorce. IF YOUR WIFE WAS FILIPINO AT THE TIME SHE FILED FOR DIVORCE, then that won't be recognized in the Philippines.

But you're wife is already a citizen of Ireland, why even bother?

Does Ireland not recognize the divorce she obtained from her husband even if she was still Filipino?
